Short biography (for press releases)

Jean-Michel Rotin, a leading figure in Zouk R'n'B, is approaching 40 years in music. A pioneer of a style that has left a lasting mark on French Caribbean music, he continues to tour and produce, buoyed by songs that have become classics of the genre.

Full biography

Some voices tell the story of a land. Jean Michel Rotin's carries Guadeloupe within it : the warmth of the sun on your skin, the salt of the sea, the softness of evening as the music begins.

Born on an island where rhythm is a language, he first learns to listen — the gwo ka of evening gatherings, American soul on the airwaves, zouk bursting onto the scene across the Caribbean. In 1988, with Energy, he steps onto the stage and never leaves.

From Héros à Créolector, he invents his own distinctive way of bringing zouk and R'n'B together : soul harmonies, warm bass lines, and always Creole as the common thread. It's our language— it's our language, and it sings.

Lyricist, composer, producer, he also opens the door to others : young voices from the Antilles, arrangers, live musicians. Because a pioneer's pride lies in the path he leaves behind.Let's go.
